Last year was a major year for Legends of Runeterra, as the game introduced the final two featured regions from League of Legends, Shurima and Bandle City. Last year also saw the highly-anticipated addition of Legends of Runeterra’s PvE game mode, ‘Path of Champions’ which has seen massive success for the game since its launch as a solo campaign late last year. Now, as Riot readies Runeterra to move into 2022, the developer’s recent roadmap for the coming months plans to double down on the game’s PvE content throughout the year.

The video posted to Legends of Runeterra’s official YouTube channel features design director Andrew Yip, director of strategy Brett Freeman, and game director Dave Guskin detailing many of the card game’s plans for 2022. Guskin reveals plans for the game’s popular PvE mode with Riot intending to remake Path of Champions, creating individual campaigns for each Champion based on their in-universe story. New additions to the game mode will also feature unique upgrades for each champion and more liberty given to players when building their deck for the PvE campaign.
Later in the video, Yip covers many of the plans the company has throughout the coming year for the game as a whole including unique mechanics for new Champions added to the game. Among the most notable aspect introduced through the roadmap is the idea of non-region-exclusive champions that can be played in combination with Champions from other regions, with the first character revealed being Jhin. The design director also confirmed shifts to Riot’s seasonal tournament structure, placing a greater focus on the year-end Worlds Championship.
Legends of Runeterra is among the most popular of a plethora of spinoff titles Riot has helped to produce over the last few years, bringing the universe of League of Legends to multiple different games. Riot’s Forge program saw the release of the first two third-party League of Legends games late last year in Hextech Mayhem and Ruined King and Riot’s in-house projects like Arcane have attracted plenty of attention from both League of Legends fans and the industry as a whole. Riot’s increased efforts to push the boundaries of the League universe, the future looks bright for the popular MOBA and its many related properties.
Legends of Runeterra is available now for PC and mobile devices.
