LEGO is officially working on a massive LEGO Super Mario The Mighty Bowser (71411) set. Built from a substantial 2,800 LEGO pieces, the result is a massive interactive Bowser LEGO figure and a platform with flaming columns for him to stand on. The Mighty Bowser will officially go on sale on October 1 and is priced at $269.99, a price to match what was clearly a substantial amount of work to design it.

Like other LEGO collaborations with Nintendo designed for 18+ builders, there’s a significant amount of interactivity built into The Mighty Bowser. There are buttons built into the figure that allows buyers to swing Bowser’s head left to right, as well as a trigger to have him raise his head. Pulling the trigger all the way will even launch a fireball out of Bowser’s mouth. If Bowser is lifted, his tail and legs will also swing around on loose joints to make it seem like he’s jumping.

As an additional level of interactivity, LEGO’s Mighty Bowser also has “enhanced play” that works with other Super Mario Starter Courses. Using the LEGO Mario, LEGO Luigi, or LEGO Peach figures with the special POW Block built into Bowser’s platform, a fun mini-game can be played where the hero figure can stomp Bowser in a mock battle. It even has audio that plays.

What makes The Mighty Bowser LEGO set stand out even more than its interactive element is simply the quality of its design. For a 12.5-inch tall Bowser figure made out of LEGO pieces, a lot went into making Bowser look accurate to his typical 3D video game form. LEGO even created a new type of piece just for the spikes on Bowser’s back.

LEGO’s The Mighty Bowser figure will look outstanding alongside the other Nintendo Super Mario collaborations. Both the Super Mario 64 question block and Nintendo Entertainment System are similarly complex (and expensive), and this will join them in October.
