According to the players sharing this strange new method of flight, the ability is apparently a result of the way that LEGO Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga deals with friendly fire and child characters. Additionally, this flight ability could even be an early example of techniques for speedrunners trying to beat the game as quickly as possible.

The key to flying in this case is to attack Young Anakin Skywalker or other children characters, who won’t take any damage from friendly fire and therefore won’t die. Since Young Anakin won’t take damage or die, the player can continue the attack combo while in the air for as long as they wish, with each strike pushing both characters higher and farther. Not only is this comical for most players, but it can be even more effective than LEGO Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga’s built-in glide ability that players could otherwise use for this type of traversal.
One of the best outcomes from players discovering this technique is that it allows for easy passage over large pits and void spaces. This could theoretically allow dedicated players to skip over puzzles or even entire levels by simply flying across areas that would normally halt progress. So on top of giving a preemptive punishment to a future Darth Vader, this could lead to players beating the game faster than most would have thought possible during their initial playthrough.
The LEGO series of games aren’t new to players finding strange ways to progress, from dying in specific areas in order to respawn beyond walls or out of bounds, to jumping over platforms that should be unreachable. However, it isn’t often that this type of technique requires players to attack their own teammates, let alone one of the few player-controllable child characters. Still, even being forced to attack a Young Anakin might be easier than solving some of LEGO Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga’s tougher puzzles using the developer’s intended methods.
LEGO Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga is available now for PC, PS4, PS5, Switch, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
