Each class available in Lego Star Wars can be upgraded with new skills to expand characters’ abilities. There are nine different classes in the game, each with four upgradable skills. When building these characters, make sure to upgrade these skills first.

Core Upgrades

Before venturing into the skill trees of each class, it’s best to take a look at the core upgrades available. These are general skills that affect every class. Core upgrades offer things like increased health, faster sprinting, and assistance with collectibles.

Getting these first will definitely give players an advantage early in the game, especially with skills like Attract Studs, which makes all studs automatically come towards the player’s character — it’s an easy way to make lots of money fast. These are also the only skills Extra characters can use like the Gonk droid.

9 Jedi: Jedi Reflexes

Jedi is most likely the most popular class in the game and players will be utilizing them for the majority of the game. Arguably their most useful skill to acquire first is Jedi Reflexes. This skill powers all counterattacks, which makes defeating foes incredibly easy once fully upgraded.

Other available skills for this class are Trick Time and Mind Master. These affect the Jedi’s mind control abilities like Panic and Distract, increasing their range and duration. Lastly is Force Flinger, which buffs the damage of objects thrown with the force. This is likely the least useful skill, because not many areas require players to defeat enemies with thrown objects.

8 Hero: Improved Shield Generator

The hero class is also one of the biggest classes in the game and has four incredibly useful skills. The first that players should unlock is Improved Shield Generator. This skill increases the shields of ships piloted by hero characters. This is quite useful because each episode requires some form of space combat, and heroes are used through the majority of the game. Rebel Heart is another useful skill that increases the drop rate of hearts from enemies. This allows for quick health regeneration, which makes the player character practically immortal.

Hero Terminal Expert is also great because it allows heroes to bypass terminals or choose to get bonus studs from completing them. Armored Disguise is the last skill to prioritize, and increases armor dropped by enemies like stormtroopers or clones.

7 Scavenger: Any

Scavenger is the third class listed in the game, and features characters like Rey. The Scavenger’s skills aren’t quite as overpowered as some, but Advanced Gliding offers fun gameplay changes by increasing the speed of the scavenger’s glider.

Other skills include Better Breaker Blaster, which buffs the damage of the Scavenger’s blaster both as a tool and for combat. Expert Climber increases climbing speed. Crafty is simply an aesthetic skill that changes the colors of the scavenger tools. It’s the player’s choice as to which they’d like to upgrade first since most of them don’t offer a huge advantage.

6 Scoundrel

The Scoundrel class features some iconic characters like Han Solo and Chewbacca. For skill upgrades, players should prioritize Business Opportunist, because it gives the player a stud discount on rumors and hints that can be used to find unlockables. Unlockable characters and collectibles are a staple of the franchise, so getting a head start on them is important.

The other three skills in the scoundrel class are combat related. Charged Shot allows the character to shoot a charged blaster shot that bounces off walls and does 25% extra damage. Combat Slide gives the player a slide ability to damage enemies. Piercing Rounds makes all scoundrel shots do extra impact damage and go through some cover.

5 Bounty Hunter: Shock Grenade

The Bounty Hunter class comes with four unique abilities fitting for Mandalorians and Fetts alike. Arguably their most useful skill is the Shock Grenade, which unlocks an attack that can disable shields. Tough enemies like Droidekas frequently use shields that can be tough to break, making this skill handy.

Another good damage dealing ability is Scattershot, which allows bounty hunters to fire a spread of bolts in a wider range. Hidden Bounties is a fun ability that causes some enemies to drop loads of studs upon defeat. The least useful ability is most likely the Enemy Detector, since seeing enemies through walls is rarely needed in this game.

4 Villain: Defense Droid

Sith Lords aren’t the only baddies in Star Wars; there are loads of others to be found in the Villain class. A neat ability to unlock first for them is the Defense Droid. This skill spawns a training droid to provide backup for players during combat. Demolitions Expert is another good ability for combat, as it buffs grenade damage.

Villains Terminal Expert is similar to some other abilities, allowing villains to bypass terminals or complete them for extra studs. Extra Ammo, meanwhile, is a lackluster skill that simply makes found weapons carry more ammo.

3 Dark Side:

Villains with knowledge of the force have been given their own class simply called Dark Side. All four of their abilities are fun and powerful, and players can prioritize any one of them when choosing what to upgrade.

The first of these is Force Crush, which causes enemies grabbed with the Force to be repeatedly damaged. Power Push gives a nice buff to the force push attack. Dark Rise boosts the power of force lift. Lastly, Fear The Dark Side is a fun skill that causes some enemies to run in fear.

2 Astromech Droids: Socket Expert

Astromech Droids are some of the most iconic little robots in all of Star Wars such as R2-D2 and BB-8. Since players will rarely be using them in combat, it’s probably best to upgrade the Socket Expert skill first. This skill allows droids to bypass socket interactions or complete them for extra studs.

Droid Barge allows for a slide that can damage enemies. Distraction is a skill that projects a hologram in front of the droid to distract enemies. Last is Supercharged, which simply adds a shockwave attack.

1 Protocol Droids

Next to Astromech is another droid class, called Protocol Droids. Droids like C3PO can get the Paid Translator ability, which rewards studs for translating alien languages and is great for making money. Polished Plating is also useful because it provides armor that sometimes deflects enemy bolts.

Other skills include Turret Tune-Up, which buffs the bolts fired from Protocol Terminal Turrets, allowing them to bounce off surfaces. The Destructive Disassembly skill adds a shockwave attack when disassembling a protocol droids body.
